Webinar Recap: Driving Decisions with Insights

How can you ensure that data not only provides insights but also actually helps guide your organization? During the webinar “Guiding Your Organization with Insights Using Microsoft Fabric”on June 25, Remco Nicolai, Principal Consultant at Valid, discussed this topic in detail.

The common thread: technology is important, but real value is only created when you bring data together in the right way and apply it within the organization.

From Data to Insight-Driven Decision-Making

Many organizations have access to large amounts of data, but they are not yet making sufficient use of it to truly drive their operations. The transition from reporting to data-driven decision-making requires more than just dashboards.

It starts with bringing together data from various sources and creating a single, reliable foundation. Only once that foundation is in place can you build on it to gain insights that actually lead to better decisions and concrete actions.

Microsoft Fabric as an integrated data platform

An important step in the process is structuring and enriching data. The webinar explained how organizations work with a layered architecture (source, processed, and ready for reporting).

  • Raw data is collected in the source layer
  • In the processed layer, data is cleaned and validated
  • In the reporting layer, data is prepared for analysis and reporting

In addition, a semantic model ensures that definitions, calculations, and KPIs are recorded unambiguously. This prevents differences in interpretation and ensures that everyone within the organization works with the same figures. The result: a single version of the truth and faster insights.

AI and Fabric IQ

AI is playing an increasingly important role in data platforms. With developments such as Fabric IQ, it is becoming possible to automatically generate insights and ask questions of the data, for example through Copilot.

This enables organizations to recognize patterns and identify anomalies more quickly. However, it is important that the underlying data and definitions are in order. Without a well-designed data model, the value of AI remains limited.

Mastering Governance and Adoption

In addition to technology, governance is essential. Within Fabric, organizations can centrally manage roles, access rights, and data usage. But adoption within the organization is just as important. Making decisions based on insights is only possible if employees trust the data and actively use it in their daily work. That is why it is important to focus on the following from the very beginning:

  • clear definitions and ownership
  • Data Quality and Monitoring
  • user engagement

Management based on insight requires more than just technical skills

The key takeaway from the webinar: a data platform is merely a tool. True value is only realized when data leads to action and decision-making in practice. This requires a combination of technology, governance, and the ability to drive change within the organization. By starting small, expanding step by step, and actively involving users, you can build a solid foundation for data-driven work.
