Reference case: Casade builds a solid foundation for data-driven working

Data-driven working is part of Casade 's digital transformation to make better choices and future-proof the organization. The ambition is clear: more insight, more coherence, and more control over management information. To make this possible, the housing corporation started a proof of concept for a renewed data approach. It soon became clear that this required more than a temporary solution. Structural professionalization of the data platform was necessary to support further growth and development.

In this case study, Linda Pelzer , Coordinating Business Analyst, and Rogier Wolff , Program Manager Digital Transformation at Casade, explain how they are working with Valid on a future-proof data environment.

The challenge: ambition and reality out of balance

Within Casade, the desire to work in a data-driven manner had been present for some time. In practice, however, it became apparent that the data team, with the reporting platform available at the time, was unable to adequately meet the organization's information needs. The development of the platform was outsourced. As a result, it was difficult internally to explain how figures were arrived at, and confidence in the reports declined. Casade wanted a less rigid platform in which various sources could be brought together to arrive at a single, consistent truth. In addition to the existing reporting platform, Casade had its own data platform built.

In practice, the stability of the platform proved to be insufficiently guaranteed. A temporary proof-of-concept environment was used as a production environment. Due to ongoing development, it experienced frequent outages. As a result, dashboards were not always available, even though the organization was making extensive use of the reports. The conclusion was clear: Casade needed to convert the proof-of-concept into a robust and professionally configured data environment. A stable foundation that functions as a single source of truth and supports both operational insights and strategic management.

The approach: professionalization and targeted scaling up

To structurally strengthen the data platform, Casade engaged the expertise of Valid. The focus was not only on resolving acute bottlenecks, but above all on laying a sustainable foundation for the future.

The approach consisted of three interconnected pillars:

Stability and management

The reliability of the platform was increased through database optimization, performance improvement, and a structured management setup. Together, we explored how the environment could become simple, scalable, and robust.

Expansion of data sources

Where previously only a single source system was connected, multiple data sources were integrated. Zig365 Operations is the largest source as a core application, supplemented by other (external) datasets such as cadastral data, energy labels, and data from customer satisfaction surveys.

Structure in information provision

By logically linking data sources, there is now a single integrated foundation used in the data landscape, where operational and strategic information converge. Work is being done on a KPI structure in parallel. With the help of a KPI tree and clear definitions, strategic objectives have been translated into concrete and measurable indicators. This allows strategy to be translated into reports to use data for steering.

By working on a solid technical data foundation and improving data quality, consistent analyses and reliable management information can be generated.

Results: peace, clarity, and room to grow

The greatest gain for Casade lies in stability and structure. The data platform is up and running. It is reliable, management is secured, and new data sources are added in a controlled manner. As a result, the information provision has become not only more stable but also richer in content. Casade now has a scalable environment that grows with the organization's needs. “We are still right in the middle of it,” says Linda, “but we are now standing on a solid foundation. That provides peace of mind as well as room to look ahead.”

The collaboration: building maturity together

The collaboration between Casade and Valid is characterized by partnership. Valid's specialists work as an extension of the internal team: executing where necessary, advising where possible, and always thinking critically about next steps. “Whether you are internal or external, we are building the same thing together,” adds Rogier. “That collaboration has to be right, and it is.”
